Middlesbrough forward, Chuba Akpom is delighted to have won the 2023 Championship player of the year as he heap praised on his coach Micheal Carrick for encouraging him.
Akpom netted 29 goals in 44 appearances to scoop the prestigious individual award at the ceremony.
And the 27-year-old has admitted the huge role club’s manager, Carrick played in his career turnaround and exploits.
“Championship player of the season, feeling extremely humbled and blessed to receive this award,” Akpom was quoted by Complete Sports.
“It’s been a journey full of ups and downs, but I’ve learnt so much on the way. I’d like to thank my teammates, my family, fans and everyone that supported me.
“He’s a manager that when players make mistakes, he encourages you no matter what. We are not scared of making mistakes or taking risks and it’s good to have that encouragement and backing from the manager.
“If you get the ball and do a misplaced pass, try it again, if you have a shot and don’t score.”
Placed in the forth position with 74 points in 44 appearances, Middlesbrough have sealed a playoffs spot, which will determine the final spot, with Burnley and Sheffield United already claiming the automatic Premier League slots.
