Chuba Akpom reveals goalscoring passion for Ajax Amsterdam after brace

Chuba Akpom has set his eyes on getting more goals for Ajax Amsterdam this season after banging his first league brace.

It was a rough start for the former Middlesbrough forward who was not close to the form that saw him emerge as the best player in the English Championship last season but it appears that he is beginning to regain his rhythm.

The Nigerian attacker scored his first brace for Ajax on Sunday evening in their 4-1 win over SC Herrenveen in the Eredivisie, thereby making it back-to-back games that he has found the back of the net.

They next face Brighton & Hove on matchday four of the UEFA Europa League on Thursday at the Johan Cruijff ArenA.

But the club seems to have to regain its old form and have secured 2 consecutive wins in a role.

“I like scoring goals. A lot of passion was released with my first goal on Thursday, and I want to feel that more often,” he told ESPN.

“I tried to present myself professionally. But in a different country, a different environment, and a different team, in a hotel, it was really difficult.

“It feels like I was left alone for the first two months. A lot has happened recently, we were not the normal Ajax. But with two victories in a row, there is confidence again and things can only get better.

“What does the new coach do differently? He spoke to me as a human being. We are football players, but we are first and foremost people. For example, he asked me how I have settled here in the Netherlands.”
