Coach Bunmi Haruna draws inspiration from FIFA Webinar led by Klinsmann and Gilberto Silva

In Nigeria’s youth football landscape, few coaches command as much respect as Bunmi Haruna — a CAF instructor and tactical innovator celebrated for his ability to unlock the full potential of young players.

Recently, Haruna participated in a FIFA technical webinar titled “Pressing High with Purpose: Maximizing Value in the Final Third,” a session anchored by football legends Jürgen Klinsmann and Gilberto Silva. The experience, he says, offered new tactical depth and fresh motivation for his coaching journey.

“In modern football, high pressing with purpose is a skill every coach must learn to teach effectively,” Haruna explained. “It’s crucial to know when to adopt this strategy and how to maximize its benefits for the team.

It was a tremendous privilege to learn from legends like Klinsmann and Gilberto, who shared their experiences with examples from the Club World Cup.”

The webinar featured Klinsmann’s dynamic presentation on the role of high pressing in disrupting opponents and creating attacking opportunities, while Silva focused on efficiency in the final third — emphasizing that success depends on both technical sharpness and intelligent decision-making.

Haruna, who currently manages FC Abuja, champions of the FCT FA Cup and FWC Cup, said the session has already influenced his tactical outlook.

“I intend to adapt the teachings in my training,” he noted. “We’ll design sessions that emphasize synchronized pressing, quick transitions, and positional awareness — ensuring every player understands their role as part of an integrated unit.”

Known for his detail-oriented methods and player-first philosophy, Haruna continues to be a driving force in Nigeria’s youth football ecosystem. His participation in FIFA’s global knowledge-sharing initiative reflects both his commitment to continuous learning and his ambition to raise the tactical standards of coaching across the country.

Coach Bunmi Haruna’s evolving approach — inspired by global insights and rooted in local excellence — underscores Nigeria’s growing reputation as a hub for modern football thinking.
