Colombia 2024: Tanzania gets JKT Queens boost for Nigeria showdown

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Ahead of Sunday’s FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers between Nigeria and Tanzania in Dar es Salaam, the host team has received a major boost.

Six players from the women’s league champions have returned to the team from Ivory Coast after participating in the 2023 CAF Women’s Champions League.

The names of the six players were not disclosed but the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) on their social media handles posted pictures of the players at the airport.

JKT Queens still has the chance of making it out of Group A at the tournament with a game to spare against Sporting Club Casablanca on Saturday but have decided to let go of six players for national assignment.

The Tanzanian and CECAFA (East African) Women’s Champions League winner bounced back from the opening match loss to Mamelodi Sundown Ladies with a 2-1 win over Athletico FC.

The 2022 FIFA World Cup quarter-finalists (Nigeria) have been training in Abuja for more than two weeks and will take on the Tanzanian girls at the Azam Sports Complex in Dar es Salaam from 3 pm Tanzania time (1 pm Nigeria time) on Sunday.

Both will make it a date again at the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja on Sunday, 19 November.

The winner of the two-legged encounter on aggregate will progress to the third round of the race to Colombia next year.
