Controversy as Niger Tornadoes coach faces allegations of assault on 3SC trainer

By Dayo Awoniyi

Niger Tornadoes head coach, Majin Mohammed, was accused of physically assaulting Shooting Stars’ goalkeeper trainer, John Dosu, following violent incident overshadowed the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) encounter on Sunday, prior to kick-off in Ibadan.

Eyewitnesses at the Lekan Salami Stadium reported that the altercation took place during the pre-match warm-up, fueling tensions between the two teams before the match had even started.

Despite the controversy, the match went ahead as planned, with Shooting Stars securing a 3-1 victory over Niger Tornadoes. The result ended Shooting Stars’ seven-match winless run and provided a much-needed boost in their bid for survival in the league.

The NPFL has yet to release an official statement regarding the incident, but growing calls from fans and football officials for disciplinary action against Majin Mohammed have intensified.

Critics have condemned the alleged assault, describing it as an unacceptable breach of sportsmanship and a stain on the league’s reputation.

The confrontation has dominated headlines, overshadowing the weekend’s results, which had significant implications for both the title race and the relegation battle.

Elsewhere, Akwa United secured their first away victory of the season with a 2-0 win over Kwara United, while other fixtures further defined the competition at both ends of the table.

As the controversy surrounding Majin Mohammed unfolds, it remains to be seen what steps the NPFL will take to address the allegations and restore confidence in the integrity of the league.
