Daniel Ogunmodede happy as Remo Stars end winless run against Akwa United

Remo Stars head coach Daniel Ogunmodede has expressed his happiness after his team ended their four-game winless run to defeat Akwa United 1-0 on Sunday.
A converted first-half penalty by Junior Nduka was all the Ikenne club needed to record their first win in five matches – which had all ended in draws.
Sunday’s victory also meant that Remo Stars finally succeeded in defeating Akwa United in six attempts, the first time they had done such since they got promoted to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) in 2017.
Reacting to the result, Ogunmodede expressed his relief at finally getting a win, adding that it was a po of his players’ sheer determination.
“It’s been coming like, we keep fighting every day,” Remo Stars manager said in a video interview.
“Results have not been favourable, but we were able to break the jinx because of our sheer determination. We felt like it was our last day of the league.
“The remaining two matches are winnable matches for us. We are going to Plateau United (in the next match) and it’s not an easy place to go, because they are a good team and a strong team.
“But the remaining six points, we want to have it all, and we would keep pushing.”
Remo Stars are currently third in Group A of the 2023 NPFL season, having garnered 27 points from their 16 matches.
Their final two games of the regular season will see them head to the New Jos Stadium to take on 5th-place Plateau United, before returning home to welcome relegation-threatened Kwara United, a week later.
