By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

The host nation, Portugal has officially announced the date for the highly anticipated international friendly match between Nigeria’s Super Falcons and Portugal’s senior women’s national team, which is part of the preparations for the forthcoming CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

According to Prompt News, this significant match for the former African champions against the European side is scheduled to take place in Lisbon on Monday, June 23, 2025, at 1 PM.

The last meeting between both sides ended in a 2-2 draw.

This match is also a component of a week-long training camp in Portugal for the Super Falcons, aimed at adequately preparing the team for the WAFCON challenge.

During their time in Lisbon, the Super Falcons will engage in two test matches against the Portuguese senior women’s football team, with one of these matches being sanctioned by FIFA to allow the coaching staff to evaluate the players’ readiness for the tournament in Morocco.

The training camp in Portugal is strategically organized to help the team acclimatize ahead of the WAFCON finals, which will occur from July 5 to 26, 2025, coinciding with the FIFA international match calendar from June 23 to July 5, 2025.

In the meantime, the Super Falcons are set to play two international friendly matches against Cameroon next week, with the first match on Saturday, May 31, at Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne-Remo, and the second on Tuesday, June 3, at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta, both located in Ogun State.

Head coach Justin Madugu has called up a total of 23 players for these upcoming matches, including captain Rasheedat Ajibade, dependable goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, defender Michelle Alozie, midfielder Toni Payne, and forward Rinsola Babajide.

Other players invited by Madugu include defenders Osinachi Ohale, Oluwatosin Demehin, and Shukurat Oladipo, midfielders Deborah Abiodun and Jennifer Echegini, as well as forwards Ifeoma Onumonu and Francisca Ordega, who is making a return to the team after a significant absence.
