Egypt Cup draw puts Al Ahly and Zamalek on course for a potential showdown

The draw for the last 32 of the 2026-2027 Egypt Cup has placed Al Ahly and Zamalek in the same half of the tournament, creating the possibility of a meeting between Egypt’s two biggest clubs in the knockout stages.

Held on Thursday at the headquarters of the Egyptian Football Association, the draw set out the last-32 fixtures and the routes each team could take through to the final. Supporters will now follow the progress of the leading clubs as teams from the Egyptian Premier League face opponents from the lower divisions.

Al Ahly will begin their campaign against the winner of the match between El Nasr and El Sekka El Hadid. Zamalek, meanwhile, will play the winner of Egypt Insurance and Pharco.

Pyramids, who won last season’s competition, were drawn to face the winner of El Dakhleya and El Terسانة. Other prominent ties include Al Masry against Misr Lel Makkasa, while ZED will meet the winner of Samannoud and Baladiyat El Mahalla.

Ceramica Cleopatra will play Abu Qir Fertilizers, with both sides seeking a place in the last 16 and a continued challenge for the trophy.

The preliminary rounds saw several established clubs eliminated. Ismaily were among the most notable casualties, losing 1-0 to El Rabat and El Anwar in the third preliminary round.

Pyramids are the holders after beating ZED 2-1 in last season’s final. That victory secured the Egypt Cup for the second time in the club’s history.
