Emmanuel Amunike defends Victor Osimhen’s AFCON 2023 goal drought

Former Nigeria international Emmanuel Amunike, has revealed the reason behind Victor Osimhen’s goal drought at the just-concluded Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire.
Regrettably, Afcon 2023 didn’t live up to expectations for reigning Africa Player of the Year, having netted 10 times in Afcon qualifiers as the Napoli star only scored once in Nigeria’s seven matches.
However, the Former Barcelona winger insists the whole story of the masked forward’s full AFCON campaign.
“You know in this AFCON, Osimhrn spent a lot of time helping the team to defend,” Amunike told News Central.
“When you have a striker that is so dangerous, moves a lot and at the end of the day he is coming to defend, I think it reduces his quality.
“Osimhen is a player that when you look at him, he moves a lot and needs players that can actually, you know, give him this balls into spaces where he can become effective and functional.”
