Emmanuel Chukwu Scores First Wolfsberger Goal in Narrow Away Defeat to BW Linz

Nigerian defender Emmanuel Chukwu was on the scoresheet for Wolfsberger AC, nodding home a late consolation goal in a 2-1 away defeat to BW Linz in Sunday’s Austrian Bundesliga encounter.

Chukwu was introduced at half-time, replacing B. Matic in the 46th minute, with Wolfsberger already trailing 2-0. The 19-year-old made an immediate impact at the back and eventually found a way to reduce the deficit, heading in during added time to ensure his side did not leave Linz without registering a goal.

The towering centre-back, who is on loan from TSG Hoffenheim, has continued to grow in confidence since arriving in Austria. His composed display and late goal helped make the scoreline more respectable and underlined his steady development at top-flight level.

Sunday’s strike marked Chukwu’s first goal for Wolfsberger, a milestone moment for the former Grassrunners FC skipper, even if it came in defeat. He was also involved earlier in the season as a substitute during a 2-1 loss to RB Salzburg on December 14, 2025.

So far this campaign, Chukwu has made seven appearances in the Austrian Bundesliga and featured once in the ÖFB Cup. With performances like this, the highly rated youngster could be pushing for more regular starting opportunities as he continues to gain experience and sharpen his game.
