As the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) prepares to crown Enugu Rangers as league champions on Sunday, former players are praising the club and its management for their outstanding achievement.
Christian Chukwu, former captain of the Nigeria senior men’s national team and an ex-player of Enugu Rangers, is ecstatic about the team’s success. He identified several key factors responsible for their triumph.
“I feel very great and excited. We are back again and celebrating already in Enugu, waiting for them to bring the cup back,” Chukwu told Eagle 7 103.7 FM. “It was proper planning, making good recruitment, having a very good coach, and the government’s true support for the club.”
The Flying Antelopes will represent Nigeria in the CAF Champions League next season, aiming to help the country maintain its four continental slots, bolstered by Rivers United’s consecutive quarter-final berths.
“The old Rangers spirit is returning gradually, and I am happy for it,” Chukwu continued. “We congratulate them. The next step is to make good recruitment to fortify the team further so that we can go very far in the CAF competition next year.”
Chukwu expressed confidence in Rangers’ potential on the continental stage: “As we return to the continent now, we will show that Rangers is still a formidable team, and our performance next season will prove it. We appreciate everyone’s support for Rangers next season.”
Reflecting on the season, he remarked, “The season is okay apart from the suspension for the Port Harcourt-based team, Rivers United. The league should have ended earlier, but it was well-organized overall. Gradually, we will get there.”
Enugu Rangers is one of the traditional teams in Nigeria, alongside Shooting Stars Sports Club and Bendel Insurance. Under the leadership of General Manager Amobi Ezeaku, the team has rebranded and become one of the best in the country.
