Enugu Rangers rekindle old rivalry with Bendel Insurance in 2023 Federation Cup final

It will be a repeat of 1978 and 1981 Challenge Cup final between Rangers Int’l and Insurance FC when both sides meet again for the 2023 Federation Cup final.

Rangers scored a late penalty to beat Plateau United 1-0 in the semi final played on Thursday in Lagos.

Godwin Obaje converted the second half penalty after referee picked a foul in the box of Plateau United.

For Bendel Insurance FC, the Benin Arsenal had to rely on mother luck before edging past giant killers, Warrior Wolves through penalties.  The triumph saw  Benin Arsenals reached the final for the first time in 17 years.

Both sides had settled for goaless affair in the regular time in the other semi final match played at Otunba Dipo Dina Stadium in Ijebu Ode.

The 2023 final that is billed to take place at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba will be the repeat of 1978 final between the old cargoes, with Insurance the better side of the then final winning by 3-0.

However, Rangers got their revenge in 1981 final when the beat their cup rivals 2-0.

The Asaba final will be used to claim the bragging rights against each other.
