Enyeama Conditions Super Eagles Return on Fitness and Form for World Cup

Vincent Enyeama, the former captain of the Super Eagles, has communicated to coach Gernot Rohr and the Nigeria Football Federation that he would consider a return to the national team only if he is in peak physical condition and top form for the upcoming Russia 2018 World Cup, as reported by Completesportsnigeria.com. Enyeama voluntarily stepped down from the national team in October 2015 after a disagreement with then-coach Sunday Oliseh. However, recent speculations have linked him with a possible comeback for the World Cup in Russia.

Sources from the Nigeria Football Federation have disclosed that while Enyeama is open to a return, he has conveyed to Coach Rohr that he will only consider rejoining the Super Eagles if he believes he is 100% fit and capable of securing the position of the first-choice goalkeeper for the World Cup. An NFF insider shared, “Vincent is working hard to regain his fitness and form before giving his final answer to Rohr on his likely recall to the Super Eagles.”

The former Super Eagles skipper is reportedly committed to earning his place on merit rather than being an emergency option. Having resumed training after undergoing surgery, Enyeama might make a comeback with a new club, according to the NFF source.

Despite ongoing negotiations, Rohr is keen on including Enyeama in the World Cup squad, valuing his wealth of experience. However, the situation could change if Carl Ikeme, who is currently receiving treatment for acute leukemia, returns to action, altering the coach’s perspective on the goalkeeping situation.
