Europa League: Victor Boniface scores and assists Bayer Leverkusen to victory

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Nigeria forward, Victor Boniface scored a goal and backed it up with an assist as his German Bundesliga side, Bayer Leverkusen ran-riot with a 4-0 win against Swedish side, Hacken in the UEFA Europa League group stage.

The breakthrough came in the 10th minute when Florida Wirtz delightfully chipped goalkeeper Peter Abrahamson after an incisive through ball from Boniface.

Leverkusen’s second came just six minutes later as Amine Adli struck sweetly on the volley after a pinpoint pass from Granit Xhaka.

Armed with all the momentum, Boniface had a goal ruled out for offside after a breakaway.

Despite the visitors’ efforts to score, Boniface added a third with a low effort under the goalkeeper a few minutes later – carrying on his fine form in the competition after scoring six goals for Union Saint-Gilloise last season.

Leverkusen scored a fourth with 20 minutes to go after a move that started by Boniface was finished by new signing Jonas Hoffman.

The Nigerian was substituted for Adam Hlozek after being a thorn in Hacken’s flesh all through the game.

Ishaq Abdulrazak was an unused substitute for Hacken.

The hosts were comfortable victors despite putting their foot off the gas in the closing stages.

Xabi Alonso’s side made it 25 goals in just six matches so far this campaign.
