Ex-Arsenal Ace Charlie Nicholas Advocates Iwobi’s Inclusion in North London Derby Clash

As Arsenal braces itself for the North London derby against Tottenham Hotspur at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, former Arsenal forward Charlie Nicholas has passionately recommended the inclusion of Alex Iwobi in Arsene Wenger’s starting lineup. The call comes in the aftermath of Arsenal’s 3-1 away defeat to Manchester City before the international break, with the Gunners aiming for a resurgence.

The last time Arsenal celebrated victory over their city rivals was in March 2014, marking a 1-0 triumph at White Hart Lane. Nicholas, who made a significant impact for Arsenal during his playing days, emphasizes the importance of Iwobi’s participation in the upcoming derby. The 21-year-old Nigerian international exhibited remarkable form for his national team, contributing two goals to Nigeria’s thrilling 4-2 comeback victory against Argentina in an international friendly on November 14.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Nicholas, who played a pivotal role in Arsenal’s 2-1 League Cup final victory against Liverpool in 1987, articulated his viewpoint: “I’d play Alex Iwobi. I’d have Aaron Ramsey in central midfield with Granit Xhaka, but my concern is that Wenger sticks with his principle of playing two holding midfielders, even though he doesn’t have the right players to play in those positions.”

Arsenal, currently positioned sixth with 19 points, faces a stern challenge from third-placed Spurs, who boast 23 points. The clash promises to be a fiercely contested encounter as both teams seek to assert their dominance in the ongoing Premier League campaign.
