The Federal Government of Nigeria has extended heartfelt congratulations to former FIFA Council member and ex-CAF 1st Vice-President, Amaju Pinnick, on his recent appointment as Special Adviser to the President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Dr. Patrice Motsepe.
Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Mallam Shehu Dikko, speaking on behalf of the government, described the appointment as a recognition of Pinnick’s vast experience, credibility, and influence in global football politics.
“This is not just a football thing,” said Dikko. “Pinnick’s appointment is a clear testament to his giant stature in global and continental football. For over a decade, he has consistently championed the cause of Nigerian and African football at the highest levels.”
Dikko highlighted Pinnick’s remarkable track record, from serving as NFF President to key roles in WAFU, CAF, and FIFA, noting his selfless contributions to the development of the sport.
He added that Pinnick’s influence has opened doors for many Nigerians across various international football organizations and expressed optimism that his new role would further enhance Nigeria’s stature in global football.
Supporting Dikko’s remarks, NSC Director-General Hon. Bukola Olopade praised Pinnick’s networking skills and commitment to Nigerian football. “We are proud of his achievements and will continue to support competent Nigerians in reaching global sports leadership roles,” Olopade stated.
CAF President Patrice Motsepe, who announced the appointment during a press briefing, praised Pinnick’s strategic mind and contribution to African football, adding, “I did not know Amaju is so loved in CAF.”
Motsepe emphasized that the appointment is both a recognition of Pinnick’s value and a strategic move to advance football development across Africa.
