FIFA Best Awards: Onome Ebi and Randy Waldrum shunned Asisat Oshoala

By: Monsurah Olatunji

Nigeria’s representatives captain Onome Ebi and coach Randy Waldrum shunned Asisat Oshoala in their respective votes for the women’s category of the FIFA Best Awards.
The Best awards is an annual occasion to honour the best players, coaches and fans who shone over the last season —during the period from August 7, 2021, to July 31, 2022— with their breathtaking skills and moments of high drama.
Away from public fans votes, the winners are selected based on who are voted for by national team captains and coaches, as well as journalists from across the globe on FIFA’s official website.
Super Falcons captain Onome Ebi opted for the 29-year-old Spanish midfielder as the number one pick for the Women’s Player award, while also naming Wiegman as her number one pick for Women’s coach.
Ebi overlooked her compatriot Oshoala to vote Alexia Putellas, Aitana Bonmati and Wendie Renard for the players category, while she picked Sarina Wiegman, Emma Hayes and Sonia Bompastor.
Meanwhile, coach Randy Waldrum on his part, opted for England’s Mead as his player option, while repeating Wiegman as his coach option.
For players, the American picked Beth Mead, Sam Kerr and Alexia Putellas in particular order, while he settled for Sarina Wiegman, Bev Priestman and Emma Hayes on the coaching category.
The winners of the illustrious accolades were revealed at a glittering Paris ceremony on Monday 27 February.
