FIFA Rankings: Super Eagles drop one spot

Nigeria’s senior men’s national team continued to falter on the FIFA rankings after their winless run in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.

In the latest FIFA ranking released on Thursday, the Super Eagles dropped a place from 38th to 39th position dropping to the fifth position in Africa.

Their three points from four games in the World Cup Qualifiers in having its toll on the country’s rankings.

They hope to return to winning ways when the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Qualifiers get underway.

Morocco which reached the semi final of the last FIFA World Cup maintained their leadership position in Africa with 14th position in the world.

Senegal occupy the second position with 19th placement in the world ahead of Egypt (36th) while African champions, Cote D’Ivoire replaced Nigeria in the 38th position and fourth in Africa.

Tunisia (41st), Algeria (46th), Cameroon (51st), Mali (53rd), and South Africa (57th) complete Africa’s top ten football teams.

The next ranking will be released in August 2024.
