FIFA U20 World Cup: NFF tasks Flying Eagles despite victory over Dominican Republic

The Nigeria U20 men’s team secured a hard-fought victory against the debutants, Dominican Republic, with a scoreline of 2-1 at the Estadio Malvinas Mendoza.
The match began with a penalty goal from Edison Azcona of the Dominican Republic, putting the North American team in the lead after 23 minutes before the Flying Eagles regrouped to turn the game around with a stroke of luck.
Guillermo de Pena’s own goal leveled matters, and Samson Lawal’s 78th minute well-taken strike sealed the win.
With the win, Ladan Bosso’s side are second in Group B, and will next face Italy who top the group after a thrilling 3-2 win over Brazil in their opening fixture on Wednesday.
In spite being pleased with the win, NFF General Secretary, Mohammed Sanusi, urged the Flying Eagles to demonstrate resilience in earning convincing wins in their subsequent ties to boost their progression chances.
“We wanted the boys to win by a higher margin as goals advantage do matter along the line in a competition such as this. I expect the Flying Eagles to also show sterner stuff,” said the NFF scribe.
