Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team sealed qualification to the Round of 16 at the 2025 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup after a commanding 4-0 victory over Samoa on Saturday at the Mohammed VI Football Academy, Sale.
A brace from Queen Joseph inspired the Flamingos to a convincing win, as Coach Bankole Olowokere’s side bounced back from consecutive defeats to secure progression as one of the best third-placed teams.
Joseph opened the scoring in the 13th minute, finishing calmly after being set up by Shakirat Moshood.
The provider turned scorer 15 minutes later, converting from the penalty spot to double Nigeria’s advantage.
The Flamingos continued their dominance, and in the 34th minute, Joseph completed her brace, this time connecting beautifully with a pass from Nguemo Terlumun.
Though Moshood’s second penalty was saved by Samoa’s goalkeeper later in the match, Nigeria extended their lead when Chisom Nwachukwu teed up Azeezat Oduntan for the team’s fourth goal.
With the result, Nigeria finished third in Group D with three points from three matches — ahead of Samoa, who ended without a point.
Canada topped the group with a perfect nine points after defeating France 2-1, while the French side finished second with six points.
The Flamingos will now await confirmation of their Round of 16 opponent as they continue their quest for glory in Morocco.
