The Nigeria U-17 girls will commence their preparations this week ahead of their participation at the 2024 FIFA U-17 women’s World Cup finals in Dominican Republic.

The Flamingos are bronze medal winners at the last edition in India two years ago and will be eager to reach the final for the first time in Africa’s history.

“Flamingos will resume camping in Abuja this week after Falconets must have departed for Colombia,” a top Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) official told BSN Sports on Sunday.

“They need to start preparations now to give the coach ample time to put the team in perfect shape ahead of their World Cup finals in October.”

The Flamingos will face the host, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, and New Zealand in Group A at the competition.

This will be the eighth edition of the tournament, which will serve as the first FIFA competition to be staged in the Dominican Republic.

After this year’s edition, which will feature 16 teams, 24 teams will qualify for the next edition, which will commence on an annual basis, a departure from the traditional biennial format.

Bankole Olowookere’s side won a bronze medal at the last edition which took place in India, the team’s best performance and joint best by an African team at the competition.

Ghana has also reached the semi-finals with a third-place finish in the tournament.
