Flying Eagles Midfielder Daniel Daga Sentenced to Six Months in Norway, Plans to Appeal

Flying Eagles midfielder Daniel Daga has been sentenced to six months in prison by a court in Norway following a ruling in a sexual offence case.

The court in Nordmøre and Romsdal District found the 19-year-old guilty of committing a sexual act without consent, according to Norwegian outlet VG Sporten.

In addition to the prison sentence, Daga was also ordered to pay 10,000 Norwegian kroner in legal costs.

Daga’s club, Molde FK, confirmed the development in an official statement but noted that the verdict is not yet legally final, as the player has already filed an appeal through his lawyer.

“The player has, through his defense attorney, notified an appeal of the verdict. The case is therefore not legally binding, and it will be treated further in the judicial system,” the club stated.

Molde also acknowledged the sensitivity of the situation and emphasized its responsibility as an employer.

“This is a very demanding case for everyone involved. Molde Football Club as an employer has a responsibility to protect our employees in a defensive manner, while we respect the seriousness of the matter and the burdens this incur on all parties concerned.

“Based on the situation and the ongoing legal process, the player will not be part of the match squad until further notice.

“Regarding the further legal process and all parties involved, Molde FK is not commenting on the matter further at this moment.”

Daga, a former captain of Nigeria’s U-20 side, joined Molde in 2023 and is regarded as one of the promising young midfielders from the Nigeria U-20 national football team setup.
