Former Home Eagles Defender Austine Obaroakpo Undergoes Trials at Cape Town City

Former Home-based Super Eagles defender, Austine Obaroakpo, has embarked on a trial period with South African Premier League club Cape Town City, as reported by Completesportsnigeria.com (CSN). The Abia Warriors captain arrived in South Africa earlier this week, engaging in training sessions with the first team with the intention of securing a permanent deal with the club.
With a limited timeframe remaining in the winter transfer window, the centre-back is eager to demonstrate his capabilities to Cape Town City’s head coach, Benni McCarthy, a former South African striker. Obaroakpo’s potential signing by Cape Town City FC would add to the club’s Nigerian contingent, joining former Super Eagles forward Obinna Nsofor, who already holds a key role within the team.
A participant in Nigeria’s squad at the 2016 African Nations Championship in Rwanda, Obaroakpo brings a wealth of experience to the trial, showcasing his skills and defensive prowess. Notable Nigerian stars, Daniel Akpeyi and James Okwuosa of Chippa United, are already contributing to the competitive landscape of the South African Premier League.
Cape Town City currently occupies the second position in the PSL table, trailing Mamelodi Sundowns by four points. As Obaroakpo endeavors to secure a permanent place in the squad, his addition could potentially bolster Cape Town City’s defensive capabilities, further enhancing their bid for success in the league.
