Gabriel Osho optimistic about Super Eagles’ World Cup qualification

By Monsurah Olatunji

Newly added to Nigeria’s national football team, Gabriel Osho, is confident that the Super Eagles can secure qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, despite their challenging start to the campaign.

The 26-year-old England-born defender, who switched his international allegiance to Nigeria, has already made two appearances in the AFCON qualifiers. Despite Nigeria sitting 5th in Group C after four matches, with just three points, Osho remains optimistic about their chances.

“We have to focus on the World Cup qualifiers and the AFCON. After the last competition, our goal is to progress and triumph. I think we have enough talent,” Osho told Flashcore. “The quality of our team is probably the best in Africa. It is time to assert it on the big stage.”

Osho expressed confidence in the team’s ability to turn things around, highlighting the extended format of the qualification process, which allows them time to make adjustments. He believes the Super Eagles can bounce back, saying, “We have games that will allow us to rectify the situation.”

Looking ahead to their crucial match against group leaders Rwanda in March 2025, Osho is determined to help Nigeria secure a win. A defeat in that game could severely damage their World Cup hopes.

However, the defender remains hopeful, stating, “Everyone is eager to participate in the World Cup, and I am sure we will do everything possible. God willing, we will qualify.”
