‘Grateful and blessed’ – England-born Rinsola Babajide reacts to first Nigeria call-up

UDG Tenerife forward, Rinsola Babajide has expressed her gratitude after earning her first call-up to Nigeria’s senior women’s national team.

The former Liverpool forward was among the 22 players invited for this month’s two-legged Paris 2024 Olympic Qualifiers against Ethiopia on Sunday.

She recently switched her allegiance from England to Nigeria after representing the European side at the U20 Women’s World Cup, winning bronze medal and is grateful for the opportunity to play for the Super Falcons.

“The love I’ve been feeling has been very overwhelming, thank you so much. Grateful & blessed for this opportunity 🥹🙏🏾🇳🇬 #Honoured,” Babajide posted on X formerly Twitter.

The 25-year-old former Brighton player joined Spanish Liga F side, UDG Tenerife ahead of the 2023/2024 season after scoring six goals in 26 league games for fellow Spanish side, Real Betis last season.

She has also previously played for Millwall, Watford and Liverpool in the English Women’s leagues.

Meanwhile, UDG Tenerife has also congratulated her after her invitation to the Nigerian national team.

She has scored a goal in the team’s first four league games this season.
