Harry Kane admits wife wants Ballon d’Or result before Monday ceremony
Harry Kane says even his wife would prefer to know the outcome of the 2026 Ballon d’Or before Monday’s ceremony, as the Bayern Munich striker’s excitement grows after his outstanding performance against Arsenal in the Champions League.
Kane scored in the 2-2 draw and was widely regarded as the match’s standout player. He has also made an impressive start to the campaign, registering 10 goals and seven assists in 11 matches in all competitions.
Asked about his chances of winning the award on Monday, Kane made no attempt to hide his anticipation.
“Of course, I appreciate every message I receive and all the support from the fans – Bayern Munich fans, England fans and Tottenham fans,” he said, according to Foot Mercato. “Obviously, Monday night could be a special night.”
The England captain said he was trying to concentrate on Bayern Munich’s upcoming matches, but acknowledged that the uncertainty surrounding the result was affecting those closest to him.
“I know it is an important event, so I am really looking forward to it,” he said. “I think my wife would prefer to know the result, and my family are very nervous.”
Kane also explained that he understood why the organisers keep the result secret until the ceremony, allowing all of the nominated players to attend.
“I understand that they want to keep it quiet so all the stars can be there, but from my point of view, of course I would like to know the result without having to wait all evening,” he added. “There is nothing I can do except enjoy the moment.”
Kane’s enthusiasm was also evident during an appearance on CBS Sports, where he spoke directly to France and Arsenal legend Thierry Henry about his hopes of claiming the most prestigious individual award in football.
Despite widespread speculation about the likely winner, Kane remained measured when discussing his own prospects.
“It would be amazing. The result? I do not know,” he said. “I know there are a lot of rumours going around at the moment, but I do not know.”
“Obviously, I really hope to achieve something like that. It would be a huge step in my career, that is for sure.”
Kane faces strong competition for the prize, with several other high-profile players still in contention. Barcelona’s emerging star Lamine Yamal, Paris Saint-Germain forward Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, experienced midfielder Rodri and Fabian Ruiz are all among the candidates.
The French contingent includes Ousmane Dembele, Kylian Mbappe and Michael Olise, ensuring Kane will have to overcome formidable opposition if he is to take the award.
