“He deserved the Man of the Match”- Akpeyi hails Owono for Equatorial Guinea heroics

Nigerian goalkeeper, Daniel Akpeyi has lauded the incredible performance of Equatorial Guinea goalkeeper, Jesus Owono in their 1-1 draw against Nigeria in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday.
The Nzalang Nationale held Jose Peseiro’s men to jugular in Group A as they shared the spoil in an entertaining African Cup of Nations clash in Abidjan as Victor Osimhen’s header canceled an earlier finish from Ivan Salvador.
He was the difference between both sides with his heroic saves, keeping out goal bound chances from Zaidu Sanusi, Ola Aina, Victor Moses and Osimhen earning him the Player of the Match award.
Akpeyi, who was a guest pundit spoke highly of amazing abilities of the young goalkeeper with Deportivo Alaves.
“The coach of Equatorial Guinea was actually right when he said he believes in the goalkeeper and is a modern day goalkeeper, and he has proved that he’s good with his feet. He can use his hands as well,” the Nigeria’s first choice keeper at the 2019 AFCON, said.
“He has done most of his distribution in the game to his players in every corner in this game today which I actually admire him and he deserved the Man of the Match, puling out save after save in this game.”
Nigeria are two points behind table toppers Ivory Coast, whom they will meet on Thursday for the second match in the group stage.
