In the wake of Hibernian’s disheartening 4-1 loss to Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday, manager Neil Lennon has staunchly supported Nigerian defender Efe Ambrose, despite the player’s involvement in the opposition’s third goal just before half-time.
Ambrose’s lapse in possession and subsequent slip paved the way for Gary Mackay-Steven to capitalize on the mistake, culminating in a goal. However, Lennon refrained from placing blame solely on Ambrose, opting instead to commend the player for his overall performance.
Speaking to Edinburgh News, Lennon stated, “Efe is the least of my worries. He’s the only one who tries to play. He’s the only one who takes responsibility. He’s been absolutely outstanding. I’m playing him at right-back to accommodate other people, and he’s done really well. If he’s at fault for the third goal, then so be it, but he was the least of my worries.”
The defeat to Aberdeen marks Hibernian’s second consecutive loss in the league, following a 2-1 home defeat against Rangers last Wednesday. The team currently occupies the fourth position on the league table with 30 points, trailing leaders Celtic by 11 points.
Lennon’s unwavering support for Ambrose underscores the manager’s confidence in the player’s overall contributions to the team, despite the setback in recent matches.
