Ifeoma Polinus and Whyte Ogbonda confident in Rivers Angels’ win over Bayelsa Queens

By Wale Mustapha

Rivers Angels’ Captain, Polinus Ifeoma, exudes confidence ahead of their clash with Bayelsa Queens in Matchday 13 of the Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) Premiership.

Currently topping Group B, Rivers Angels aim to widen their lead to five points with a victory over their South South rivals on Wednesday.

Ifeoma emphasizes the team’s focus on securing crucial match points to solidify their position for the Super Six playoffs, rather than succumbing to pressure.

“We are prepared for the match,” she asserts, highlighting their determination to overcome Bayelsa Queens. “There is no pressure at all,” she adds confidently, foreseeing victory without predicting the scoreline.

Meanwhile, Coach Whyte Ogbonda sees the upcoming match as a significant test for his team, following their recent triumph in the Rivers State FA Cup.

Viewing the FA Cup encounter as valuable preparation, Coach Whyte anticipates a tough battle against Bayelsa Queens but asserts his team’s readiness to emerge victorious.

“We are well-prepared,” Coach Whyte affirms, stressing the importance of the match in securing their spot in the Super Six. Reflecting on their previous encounter with Bayelsa Queens, which ended in a draw, Coach Whyte anticipates a determined opposition but expresses confidence in his team’s ability to clinch victory.

“I’m sure of victory at the end on Wednesday,” says Polinus. “It’s a big derby in the Nigeria Women Football League Premiership,” she adds, emphasizing the significance of the match.

“We played FA Cup match during the weekend and I will say the match was part of our preparation for the match on Wednesday,” explains Coach Whyte, underlining their strategic approach.

“We are expecting a very strong and good fight from Bayelsa Queens on Wednesday,” he continues. “They forced us to a 1-1 draw in Yenagoa in the first stanza, I think they will come out to ensure it doesn’t repeat again but we are prepared to ensure we get the victory over them.”

With both the captain and the coach exuding confidence, Rivers Angels are poised for a compelling showdown, aiming to convert their preparation into a decisive victory over Bayelsa Queens.
