Iheanacho’s Resurgence: A Vital Asset for Leicester City’s Turnaround

Leicester City manager Craig Shakespeare has expressed confidence in the improved physical condition of Nigerian forward Kelechi Iheanacho as the Foxes prepare for a crucial Monday clash against West Brom in the English Premier League.

Shakespeare, seeking a reversal in his team’s fortunes, places considerable reliance on Iheanacho’s return to peak fitness after the 21-year-old’s initial setback this season due to a toe injury. The manager anticipates the increased competition for positions with the return of a fully fit squad, aiming to leverage the enhanced strength and fitness demonstrated by Iheanacho in training.

“I am hopeful, we are now getting a fully fit squad back. There will be competition for places. We need that. We only have a few injuries now,” remarked Shakespeare to Leicester Mercury. He specifically noted Iheanacho’s progress, stating, “Iheanacho has started to look stronger and fitter in training.”

While Iheanacho has only secured one start against Huddersfield, his four substitute appearances underscore his push for a more prominent role within the team. Despite being an unused substitute for the Super Eagles in the recent World Cup qualifying win over Zambia, Iheanacho remains a pivotal asset for Leicester City.

Shakespeare, reflecting on the team’s performance, expressed optimism about initiating a winning streak. Despite facing defeats from formidable opponents such as Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea, and Liverpool, Leicester City managed to secure victories against Brighton and draws against Huddersfield and Bournemouth on away grounds, accumulating five points from a possible 21.

“If we can turn some of those performances into points then we will be okay,” Shakespeare concluded, emphasizing the importance of adapting during games to secure positive results and foster a winning mentality within the squad. As Leicester City looks to ascend the Premier League standings, Iheanacho’s resurgence may play a pivotal role in their pursuit of success.
