IMC boss Gbenga Elegbeleye tasks NPFL clubs on hitch-free second stanza

Chairman of the Interim Management Committee, Gbenga Elegbeleye has appealed to the Nigeria Premier Football League clubs to approach the second stanza with the utmost professionalism to ensure a hitch-free season.

NPFL clubs will make return to action starting on Saturday, March 25 when the second stanza of the season kicks off., with clash between former winners Enyimba and Group A leaders, Bendel Insurance the headline fixture in Aba.

Ahead of the restart, the IMC Chairman has urged fans to maintain the spirit of sportsmanship and eschew acts capable of bringing the game to disrepute, while promising fair officiating to produce Super Six playoff finalists.

“We, first of all, want to commend the clubs and their players for a near-perfect first stanza of the season and for the rest of the season, the highest standards of excellence in quality of play and adherence to the rules is required,” Elegbeleye told the clubs.

“Our commitment to fairness on and off the field of play is even reinforced by our determination to have only the very best clubs qualifying for the play-off at the end of the season.”

Lobi Stars of Makurdi leads in Group B with 19 points ahead of Rivers United with 18 points, while Group A is topped by Insurance on 23 points and followed by Enyimba on 16 points.

The top three teams from each group at the end of the abridged season will qualify for the season-ending Super Six.
