Jose Peseiro congratulates Ademola Lookman on CAF Awards success

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Former coach of Nigeria’s senior men’s national team, Jose Peseiro, has showered praises and encomiums while congratulating Ademola Lookman for his feat of winning the 2024 Africa Player of the Year award.

Lookman beat opposition from Achraf Hakimi (Morocco), Simon Adingra (Cote D’Ivoire), Ronwen Williams (South Africa), and Giurassy to the top prize on Monday.

The feat ensured consecutive triumph for Super Eagles at the awards after Victor Osimhen ended Nigeria’s 24-year wait by winning the individual honor.

Peseiro said the award was a recognition of Lookman’s incredible talent.

“Congratulations
@molalookman on winning the CAF Player of the Year 2024 award!” Peseiro posted on his social media handles.

“A well-deserved recognition of your incredible talent and your significance to Nigeria and African football.

“It is also important to highlight the role of the Nigerian national team, whose collective efforts contributed to this individual award, as well as the remarkable achievement of a Super Eagle winning the award for the second consecutive year, following @victorosimhen9 victory last year.
Many congratulations!.”

Peseiro was in charge of the Super Eagles when Osimhen won the award in 2023 ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

He led the team to a silver medal feat at the last AFCON in Cote D’Ivoire, where Lookman emerged as the Super Eagles’ top goal scorer.
