Jose Peseiro scouts NPFL talents in Akure as Sunshine Stars pip Niger Tornadoes

The 62-year-old had spent time watching Nigeria’s U17 Golden Eaglets and U20 Flying Eagles and has recently been on a watching spree of Nigerian players at home and abroad over the last few weeks.

Reacting after the match, the Portuguese tactician expressed his delight in the improved standard of the Nigerian topflight, while appealing for an improvement in facilities and players’ welfare.

“It’s a pleasure for me, to be in Akure, to see Sunshine Stars against Niger Tornadoes. I saw the match, it is a good game, good quality, good players, good goals; the first goal and the second goal, with good management, with good assists in the game,” Peseiro told  journalists in Akure.

“Sunshine Stars are the first team I am seeing twice, I was at Ilorin to watch them play Kwara United last season, so this is my first time here (Akure), they have many good players, and the media are also important for the development of football.

“I came from Europe to know better about the people here, improve my capacity by having the best relationship with my players, the people, the fans also, the media, I respect everybody. It is a good impression, in my program, in my goal, to help my job.

“We need to improve our league, our competitions, our formations, our facility, our support for media, our support for players, our orientation. Nigeria has over 200 million people that produced many players.”
