Emmanuel Amuneke Hails Heartland’s Progress After Dominant Win Over Gateway United

Emmanuel Amuneke, Technical Manager of Heartland FC, has revealed that his players are increasingly embracing his football philosophy, a development he believes powered their emphatic 3-0 victory over Gateway United.

The Nigeria National League (NNL) clash at the Dan Anyiam Stadium saw Heartland deliver a commanding performance to strengthen their push for promotion.

Emmanuel Charles opened the scoring just seven minutes into the match, setting the tone early for the hosts. Udochukwu Anumudu doubled the lead in the 38th minute, giving the Naze Millionaires a comfortable cushion heading into the break.

Returnee Francis Erikan sealed the victory with a third goal in the 71st minute, ensuring a clean sheet and keeping Heartland third in Conference A with 23 points.

Speaking after the match, Amuneke attributed the improved performances to growing understanding, unity, and adherence to the team’s philosophy.

“Everything has a process,” he said. “Since the season started, we’ve been trying to build a philosophy where players can express themselves and understand the game intelligently.

“Football is not just about talent; it’s about understanding your teammate and bringing that unity together so everyone functions as a unit.”

Reflecting on the difference from their goalless first-round meeting, Amuneke highlighted improved efficiency in front of goal and the impact of new personnel.

“We had chances in the first game but didn’t take them. This time, we were more effective. To win matches, you must convert your opportunities,” he noted.

Despite the convincing result, Amuneke insisted his side remains focused, with three games left—including an away fixture against Smart City FC.

“We’re not here to make noise. We just want to approach each game as it comes. Every match will be difficult, but what matters is our readiness to achieve our objectives,” he concluded.

Heartland’s growing cohesion and clinical edge could prove decisive as they push to finish the season strongly.
