Joy Omewa makes Elitedivisionen women’s team of the season in Denmark

Nigeria forward Joy Omewa has been named as part of the best starting XI on the Danish women’s football league team of the 2022-23 Elitedivisionen season.

The former Confluence Queens player had a stellar season with Fortuna Hjorring and was rewarded with the team of the season, having scored eight goals in 21 games at the end of the 2022/2023 league season.

This was an improvement on her first season with the team when she scored three goals in seven games. Despite her exploits, Fortuna finished third at the end of the 2022/2023 campaign, missing out on UEFA Women’s Champions League (UWCL) qualification.

Two of her teammates at Fortuna Hjorring; Olesen Kristian and Dybdahl Rikke also made the team of the season.

Four players from league champions, Køge also made the team of the season, notably are Norheim Andrea, Faerhe Emma, Mie Jans, and Floe Cecilie.

After missing out on qualification for the UWCL, Omewa and her team will hope to end the season on a high note when it faces Nordsjaelland in the Danish women’s Cup final.

Fortuna Hjorring won the title last season and will hope to return the title this time around.
