Jurgen Klopp backtracks on Antonio Conte comments & provides Firmino update
Jurgen Klopp spoke to the media on Monday ahead of Liverpool’s next outing. Liverpool will face Aston Villa on Tuesday evening at Villa Park.
Ahead of the game, Jurgen Klopp discussed a number of topics in his presser, including his comments after the Tottenham game, in which he hit out at Antonio Conte’s style of play.
However, when speaking on Monday, Klopp suggested those comments came in the heat of the moment: “What I said after the Spurs game – I wouldn’t [say it now]. That was just my feeling at the moment. After City were knocked out by Madrid, that was obviously difficult to take.”
Klopp also provided an update on Roberto Firmino: “He’s getting closer and closer.”
The German added: “It’s a challenge [to pick a team] but the medical dept makes it easier sometimes. We will see but it’s challenging and that’s it. Bobby Firmino has trained so it is a decision for tomorrow.”

Aston Villa vs Liverpool
Liverpool head into the Villa game having been dealt a blow in their pursuit of the 2021/22 Premier League title this past weekend.
The Reds drew 1-1 with Tottenham on Saturday evening whilst Manchester City put five past Newcastle United on Sunday.
As a result, Liverpool are now three points adrift of Manchester City with just three league games left to play.
City also have a four better goal difference thanks to their dominant win over Newcastle.
As a result, Liverpool cannot afford any sort of slip up vs Villa and, if possible, need to beat Steven Gerrard’s side by a decent scoreline to help bolster their goal difference.
Aston Villa, meanwhile, are sat 11th in the Premier League with little left to play for.
