King Mohammed VI Presides Over Council of Ministers, Reviews 2030 World Cup Preparations and Approves Key Agreements

His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him, chaired a Council of Ministers session at the Royal Palace in Rabat, corresponding to Joumada II 02, 1446 H.
The meeting focused on Morocco’s international commitments, energy reforms, and preparations for the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
At the outset, Mr. Fouzi Lekjaa, Minister Delegate to the Minister of Economy and Finance in charge of the Budget and Chairman of the 2030 World Cup Committee, presented an update on Morocco’s progress in co-hosting the prestigious tournament alongside Spain and Portugal.
His report reflects advancements in infrastructure and organizational planning, reaffirming Morocco’s readiness to deliver a world-class event.
The Council also reviewed and approved several bilateral and multilateral conventions:
Bilateral Agreements: Focused on mutual recognition of driving licenses, enhanced cooperation in criminal justice, combating cross-border crime, and advancing military and technical collaboration with European partners.
Multilateral Agreements: Addressed offenses onboard aircraft and endorsed the Charter for the Digital Cooperation Organization, promoting global digital connectivity.
In the energy sector, His Majesty appointed Zouhair Chorfi as Chairman of the National Electricity Regulatory Authority, based on recommendations from the Head of Government and the Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development. His Majesty further directed a transformative reform of the Authority, expanding its mandate to regulate the broader energy sector. This includes natural gas, renewable energies like hydrogen, and areas such as energy production, storage, transport, and distribution, aligning with international best practices.
These decisions underscore Morocco’s commitment to fostering international collaboration, strengthening governance, and positioning the country as a global leader in sustainable energy and sports development.
