Remo Stars proprietor Kunle Soname has set clear targets for the Sky Blues as they prepare to defend their historic Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title and push for a stronger campaign on the continent.
The Ikenne-based side made history last season by lifting their first-ever NPFL crown, becoming the first South-West club to win the title since Julius Berger in 2000.
Speaking on TheAbuAzeezPodcast, Soname insisted the team must sustain its winning mentality.
“I don’t know if it’s gonna sound boastful, but what I want them to do is what I’m going to say. They have won this league; they must win it again and again, and I think we are capable of doing it,” Soname declared.
“Except other teams change something, if it remains like this, we will keep winning.”
On the continent, Remo Stars will once again test their strength in the CAF Champions League, beginning with a preliminary round tie against Comoros champions, US Zilimadjou. Soname revealed that the target this time goes beyond participation.
“On the continent, God willing, we believe in baby steps. Our objective this coming season is to have a deep run.
We’ve come short two times in this CAF Champions League, always eliminated in the preliminary round. Now, our main objective this season is to at least get to the group stages, and I think we will get there.”
Remo Stars will kick off their title defence with a blockbuster clash against last season’s runners-up, Rivers United, at the M.K.O Abiola Stadium.
