Kwara United hold Warri Wolves, set sights on Ghana battle with Asante Kotoko

By Dayo Awoniyi

Kwara United displayed grit and discipline on the road as they held newly promoted Warri Wolves to a goalless draw in their NPFL Matchday 4 clash at the Southern Delta University Stadium, Ozoro.

The Harmony Boys started brightly, dictating play and drawing applause from the stands. In the 25th minute, Johnmark Aule Shirsha nearly broke the deadlock, but his low drive was palmed away by the Wolves goalkeeper.

Despite pushing forward, the hosts struggled to create clear-cut chances, leaving the first half without goals.

The second half brought more urgency from Wolves, but Kwara’s backline — marshalled by goalkeeper Suraj Ayeleso and supported by Kabiru Muhammed, Saheed Olaniyi, Ibrahim Yahaya, and Victor Adeoye — held firm.

Substitute Obiorah Kingsley, introduced for Babatunde Bright in the 58th minute, came closest for the visitors with a fierce strike, only to be denied once again by the Wolves’ shot-stopper.

The home side threatened late on, but Kwara’s resilience ensured they secured a valuable away point.

After the game, Head Coach Tunde Sanni praised his players’ mentality and composure, calling it ideal preparation for their continental assignment.

“It was a good game and a good test ahead of Asante Kotoko. I believe Asante cannot do more than what Wolves did here today, and if we can survive this, we can survive in Ghana,” Sanni said.

Kwara United now sit on five points from four matches and will shift focus to the CAF Confederation Cup, where they face Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko at the Accra Stadium on Sunday.
