Las Palmas Falters Despite Etebo’s Return: Levante Secures 2-1 Win in LaLiga Clash

Relegation-threatened Las Palmas faced yet another setback in the Spanish LaLiga, succumbing to a 2-1 defeat against nine-man Levante, despite the return of Super Eagles midfielder Oghenekaro Etebo to their ranks on Sunday.
It marks Las Palmas’ consecutive league losses following the previous weekend’s 3-0 defeat at the hands of Real Madrid. Etebo, who missed the club’s last two league fixtures against Deportivo La Coruna and Real Madrid due to injury, made his comeback alongside Nigerian teammate and Rio 2016 Olympics hero Imoh Ezekiel, both playing the full 90 minutes for Las Palmas.
The match witnessed Levante taking the lead in the 35th minute courtesy of Coke, yet Las Palmas responded with David Garcia’s equalizer in the 50th minute. Levante faced adversity as Coke was sent off in the 86th minute, reducing them to ten men.
Despite the numerical advantage for Las Palmas, Levante seized the late victory when Jose Campana netted the decisive goal in the 90th minute. The contest ended in dramatic fashion as Levante went down to nine men after Ruben Rochina received a straight red card in added time.
Las Palmas’ loss in this fixture sees them sliding to the 19th position in the league standings, amassing 21 points, with seven games left to play in the season. The defeat further intensifies their struggle against relegation as the season’s conclusion draws near.
