Leicester City’s manager, Claude Puel, has shed light on the absence of Nigerian forward Ahmed Musa from the squad this season, hinting that the player’s future will be re-evaluated when the January transfer window opens. Musa, who joined the Foxes from CSKA Moscow last season, has struggled to secure a place in the lineup, remaining absent from Premier League fixtures.
Despite delivering an impressive performance in a Carabao Cup clash against Sheffield United in August, where he notched a goal in a 4-1 victory, Musa has found himself primarily featuring for Leicester City’s U-23s, making just four appearances.
Addressing Musa’s status, Puel emphasized the strength of competition within the squad, stating, “He’s a good player with quality. For me, he’s not a striker, he’s a winger who can play on the left or right.” Puel acknowledged the challenging task of making choices due to the existing competition with players like Marc Albrighton, Demarai Gray, and Riyad Mahrez. The manager emphasized Musa’s positive attitude in training sessions, recognizing its significance for both the player and the squad.
While discussing the player’s future, Puel stated, “It’s not the time to speak about if he can bring something to the squad or if he can leave the squad in January. We’ll look at all the players. At the moment the status quo remains.”
Musa, on his part, is likely contemplating his options, aiming to secure a spot in the Nigerian squad for the upcoming 2018 World Cup in Russia. The decision on Musa’s role at Leicester City will unfold as the club navigates the transfer window early next year.
