Leicester City’s Wilfred Ndidi Shines, Kelechi Iheanacho Falls Short in FA Cup Defeat to Chelsea

In a thrilling encounter at the King Power Stadium on Sunday, Leicester City suffered a 2-1 defeat to Chelsea after extra-time in the quarter-finals of the Emirates FA Cup. Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi emerged as one of Leicester’s standout performers, while Kelechi Iheanacho’s performance was deemed average by the Leicester Mercury, who rated each player’s display out of 10.
Ndidi, who showcased his tireless work rate and tenacity, received a commendable score of seven. The Leicester Mercury praised his ability to consistently win tackles, as he effectively competed with Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante. Alongside Ndidi, Harry Maguire, Marc Albrighton, and Jamie Vardy also received ratings of seven.
On the other hand, Iheanacho’s impact during the match was somewhat underwhelming. The paper noted that the Nigerian forward failed to replicate his impressive performance against West Brom, with a number of poor passes hindering his effectiveness. As a result, Iheanacho received a rating of five before being substituted by Shinji Okazaki in the second half.
Both Ndidi and Iheanacho are now expected to join the Super Eagles’ camp as they prepare for upcoming friendlies against Poland and Serbia on March 23 and 27 respectively. The Nigerian duo will be looking to carry their club form onto the international stage and contribute to their nation’s success.
Leicester’s overall performance against Chelsea was highlighted through the player ratings provided by the Leicester Mercury. Kasper Schmeichel received a rating of five, while Danny Simpson, Wes Morgan, Ben Chilwell, Vicente Iborra, and Riyad Mahrez all received ratings of six. The collective efforts of the team were not enough to overcome Chelsea, who managed to secure victory in extra-time.
Despite the disappointing result, Leicester City can take pride in the performances of Ndidi and several other players who displayed their commitment and determination throughout the match. As the Super Eagles prepare for their upcoming friendlies, Nigerian football fans will be hoping that both Ndidi and Iheanacho can replicate their club form and contribute significantly to their national team’s success.
