Marco Silva hails “fantastic” Alex Iwobi after Fulham’s victory

By Monsurah Olatunji

Fulham manager Marco Silva has showered praise on Alex Iwobi following his standout performance in the club’s 3-1 win over Brighton & Hove Albion on Thursday night.

The 28-year-old Nigerian international was in superb form, scoring twice to lead his team to victory at Craven Cottage.

Iwobi opened the scoring in the fourth minute and completed his brace with a powerful strike in the 87th minute, securing all three points for Fulham.

After the match, Silva was quick to highlight Iwobi’s contribution, describing him as a “fantastic” player.

“Alex has been outstanding from the first day of pre-season. He is in a happy place, and he’s a fantastic footballer,” Silva told the BBC.

“Last season was his best in the Premier League so far. I took him to Everton, and I didn’t hesitate for one second when I had the chance to work with him again. One or two months ago, I said he would be even better this season.”

Silva also spoke of Iwobi’s versatility and the positive impact he has had this season.

“From the first day of pre-season, I felt he would make a big difference. He’s a versatile player who is taking responsibility and can be used in many different positions.

“He’s a top player, and his ability to assist and score goals is better than ever. What a game for him. What a player he is for us, and he deserves all the credit.”

Iwobi’s performance against Brighton was historic. He became the first Premier League player in 2024 to score 2+ goals, complete 3+ take-ons, win 5+ duels, and regain possession 5+ times in a single game, marking a memorable night in Fulham’s 3-1 win.
