Maryann Ezenagu opens goal account in Zenit Saint Petersburg draw with Zvezda

Nigeria forward Maryann Ezenagu scored her first goal for Zenit Saint Petersburg as her team played out a 1-1 draw with Zvezda 2005 in Russia Supreme División Women’s side on Friday.

The former Rivers Angels player opened the scoring for the visitors at the half-hour mark.

After the interval, the host attempted a comeback and were rewarded for their efforts in the 62nd minute.

Sofiya Shishkina equalised to ensure that both teams shared the spoils.

The result meant Zenit level on points at the top of the table with Francesca Ordega’s CSKA Moscow with 54 points ahead of the latter’s next game.

Ezenagu joined Zenit last season and won the Russian Cup with the team and will hope to win the Cup again this season.

Her team will next face the same opponent, Zvezda 2005 in the semi-final of the 2023 Russia Women’s Cup on September 15.
