Nigeria delivered a commanding performance to emerge champions of the Nike 3-A-Side African Tourney, with the final played on Saturday in Casablanca, Morocco, underscoring the country’s growing strength in women’s football.
The Nigerian team swept aside all opposition en route to the title, opening their campaign with an emphatic 5–0 victory over Angola. They followed this with a convincing 4–1 win against Egypt before edging past Ivory Coast 1–0 in a tightly contested encounter. Nigeria then returned to ruthless form, thrashing South Africa 5–1 to book a place in the final.
In Saturday’s championship match, Nigeria faced host nation Morocco in front of an energetic home crowd but showed composure, quality and authority, securing a dominant 4–1 victory to lift the tournament trophy.
Beyond the team success, Nigeria produced the standout individual of the competition in Nigeria U-17 women’s captain, Shakirat Moshood. The Bayelsa Queens star delivered a sensational performance in the one-on-one challenge segment, where she went head-to-head with opponents from six different countries in three-minute games. Moshood won all her matchups, showcasing exceptional skill, confidence and tactical intelligence.
Her flawless display earned her the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award, capping a memorable tournament for Nigeria and further confirming the depth of emerging talent within the nation’s women’s football pipeline.
Nigeria’s triumph in Casablanca reinforces its status as a rising force on the African stage and signals a bright future led by young stars such as 2025 African Women’s Youth Player of the Year runners up Moshood.
