The Nigeria Football Federation has given Nigeria’s senior men’s national team coach, Jose Peseiro three days to either accept a pay cut or leave his job as the head coach of the West African country.
Hours after the inauguration of the NFF Technical and Development Committee, the chairman Alhaji Sheriff Rabiu Inuwa confirmed this new development in Abuja on Tuesday.
“The Technical Committee has given him [Peseiro] three days to respond to our proposed pay cut or we disengage him finally,” Inuwa told Complete Sports.
“We will allow him to continue if he accepts a reduction in his 70,000 USD monthly salary and other conditions of service.
“If he turns down our proposal, we will consider appointing a coach to oversee the dead rubber game against Sao Tome and Principe in Uyo, then we start to search for a new substantive coach that the NFF can afford to pay his salary.”
Peseiro’s contract as the coach of the three-time African champions ended on July 31 this year but has agreed to take the team to the next African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast after qualifying for the tournament with a game to spare.
The Federation has decided to offer the Portuguese coach a new contract with a pay cut option.
As of the time of this report, Peseior has refused to accept the pay cut but wants to continue as the coach of the Super Eagles after being owed 12 months’ salary.
