Nigeria, Egypt to battle for bronze at Africa U20 Cup of Nations

By Dayo Awoniyi

Seven-time champions Nigeria will face hosts Egypt in the third-place match of the 2025 Africa U20 Cup of Nations on Sunday at the 30 June Air Defence Stadium in Cairo.

Both teams, considered pre-tournament favorites, fell short in the semifinals and will now compete for the bronze medal in what promises to be a closely contested encounter.

This marks Nigeria’s fifth appearance in a third-place match at the tournament. The Flying Eagles have claimed the bronze medal three times in previous editions.

Egypt, four-time champions of the competition, have also finished third on three occasions and will aim to secure a fourth medal on home soil.

With both nations eager to end their campaigns on a high note, the playoff is expected to showcase top-level youth football and national pride.

Kickoff is scheduled for Sunday, with the winner taking home the tournament’s bronze medal.
