Nigeria-eligible Folarin Balogun outshines Messi & Mbappe with last-gasp equaliser

By Monsurah Olatunji

Nigeria eligible forward Folarin Balogun grabbed a late equaliser to help Reims secure a 1-1 draw against the numerically disadvantaged PSG.
PSG returned to Ligue 1 action at the Parc des Princes following a dominant display over Pays Cassel in the Coupe de France, with World Cup winner Lionel Messi involved in his side’s goal when his deflected shot fell into the path of Neymar, who went around Diouf to finish into an open net.
The visitors thought they would level when Marquinos brought down Balogun in the box to give hand them a penalty but VAR revealed that the striker was offside in the build up.
The Arsenal loanee found himself in space in the 90+5 minutes, and just like Neymar’s goal earlier in the game, he went round the charging Donarumma to steal a late point for his team.
The 21-year-old forward spent last season on loan with Middlesbrough where he scored just three goals and he has been representing England in the youth teams, but he can still switch allegiance if he wants.
Speaking to Amazon Prime, via Paris Fans, Balogun said “Yes, it’s a crazy night for my team and me. Coming here, we were on a good streak and we wanted it to continue. As you said, this is a special night for me, my family.
“I had spoken to Thierry before the game and tried to follow his advice. I’m so happy to have been able to score today!”
With his strike against Paris Saint-Germain,  the Super Eagles-eligible forward has took his tally to eleven goals from nineteen appearances in the Ligue 1 – a goal every 121 minutes.
