Nigeria’s senior national team now knows their potential opponents ahead of the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) holding next year in Ivory Coast.

The 24 qualified teams for the tournament have been pitted into four pots of six teams for the draw. The Super Eagles are in Pot 2 alongside Cameroon, Mali, Burkina Faso, Ghana, and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

The top five teams in Africa based on FIFA Rankings released this week were pitted in pot 1 with host, Ivory Coast.

They are Morocco, Senegal, Tunisia, Algeria, and Egypt.

Pot 3 houses South Africa, Cape Verde, Guinea, Zambia, Equatorial Guinea, and Mauritania.

Pot 4 comprises Guinea Bissau, Mozambique, Namibia, Angola, The Gambia, and Tanzania.

Teams in the same pots can not be placed in the same group.

The draw for the 2023 AFCON will take place on October 12, 2023, in Abidjan, Ivory Coast capital.
