Nigeria star Rasheedat Ajibade returns to club action with Atletico Madrid

By: Monsurah Olatunji

Rasheedat Ajibade starred for Atletico Madrid against River Plate in the Women’s Cup semifinal at the mid-week.
The 23-year-old forward has returned to Atletico Madrid following her exploits at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Ajibade, known as Rash, is only 23 but has already played in two World Cups and won the Africa Cup of Nations.
However, she missed the Super Falcons’ opening group match against Olympic Champions Canada due to a red card received at the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations.
She played an integral role when she returned to action for the Super Falcons as they were ranked 10th out of 32 teams at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Their journey came to an end in the quarter-finals though as they fell just short of a real upset against England, the European champions.
However, she scored her penalty in the shootout but not enough to see her side go beyond the round of 16.
She brought the positive momentum back to her club side as she took part in the Women’s Cup semifinal fixture between Atletico Madrid and South American side River Plate.
Ajibade started the game on the bench at the Wanda Sports Center in Alcalá de Henares. She came in for Shiela in the 69th minute and played an integral role for the sixth goal.
As Atletico Madrid gears up for the upcoming season, Ajibade will now take part in pre-season.
